ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MULTI DRUG RESISTANT ACINETOBACTER SPECIES FROM DIESEL OIL CONTAMINATED SOIL SAMPLESPRAVEEN KUMAR VEMURI, KARUNYAKANTH MANDAPAKA AND SRUTHI RANJANI MODUMUDIAbstract Diesel oil-degrading bacterium Acinetobacter species was isolated from diesel oil-polluted soil samples from various locations of Autonagar, Vijayawada City, Andhra Pradesh, India. Two different strains having specific ability to degrade and utilize diesel oil for their growth were isolated. The isolated bacterium was identified as Acinetobacter species based on its 16S rRNA typing as well as various morphological and physiological characteristics. Antibiotic sensitivity of the isolates was also checked against different antibiotics of which they showed resistance against amoxicillin, levoflaxin, minocycline, chloramphenicol and sulfadiazine. This study might be an important step towards the bioremediation of diesel oil contaminated soil and waste water.
