GIS BASED INTERPOLATION CONTOUR MODELS ON THE ASSESSMENT OF PLANKTON IN PULICAT BRACKISH WATER LAKE, SOUTHEAST INDIAJ. Sesh Serebiah, R. Astalaksmi, A. Priya and R. Moses InbarajAbstract Planktons are free floating components that are widely distributed in the marine and estuarine environments. They are called as the foundation stone of world fishery. Phytoplankton and zooplankton were collected at twenty sampling points for the period of six months in 2009 at Pulicat brackish water lake. A total of 37 species of phytoplankton recorded during the study. Among, 26 species were diatoms (Bacillariophyceae). 8 Species were dinoflagellates (Dinophyceae). 2species were blue greens (Cyanophycea) and single species were green algae. A total of 19 species of zooplankton recorded in all twenty sampling points under 7 major groups. Physicochemical and nutrient were analysed and found that play crucial role on the distribution of plankton. GIS based contour models were prepared for efficient spatial understanding.
