SOLVENT EXTRACTION; UTILIZATION OF QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALT AS A PERFECT EXTRACTANT FOR CR(VI) PRESENT IN LEATHER TANNERY EFFLUENTK.S. YOGANAND AND S. RAJUAbstract Water resources are contaminated with numerous polluting agents in that Cr (VI) is one of the main toxic metals which are dislodged from leather tanning and chrome plating industries. It is determined by UV-Visible spectrometry with the help of 1, 5 diphenylcarbazide in aqueous solutions at 540 nm. In the case of solvent part, it is confirmed with the signal at 344 nm by performing blank reaction. The Cr (VI) can be eliminated by using quaternary ammonium salt, which acts as coordinating agent. The solvent extraction parameters are thoroughly varied and the suitable concentration of the parameters has been evaluated for the effluent treatment.
