HYDROLOGY OF BELLAL LAKE, BODHAN, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIAV.R. SOLANKI, VASUDHA LINGAMPALLY, A.V. RAJASHEKHAR AND S. SABITA RAJAAbstract Bellal lake of Bodhan is one of the prominent lakes present in the Nizamabad Dist, Andhra Pradesh, India. The present investigation aims to study the hydrochemistry of Bellal Lake for the period of two years from August 2002 to July 2004. We have studied monthly variations of water quality parameters and their correlations were observed. The present study has proved the rich content of dissolved oxygen and biological oxygen demand and less percentage of nutrients like NO3 and Phosphates. Although the D.O. level is less in summer months, the average D.O. values of about 8.41mg/L ± 3.05, B.O. D values of 25.39 mg/L ±7.71 , NO3 values of 1.58 mg/L ± 0.13, and phosphates were observed in less concentrations. Thus the status of the lake in present study indicates its oligotrophic nature. Data on various physico chemical characteristics vary at different sites in different months in Bellal Lake. The fluctuations of different physico chemical components suggests that proper restoration methods are needed for Bellal lake.
