Abstract

In this study we use eight indices for nine range land region in north of Fars province in Iran. Indices are calculated based on precipitation. In this study, indices of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), China-Z index (CZI), modified CZI (MCZI), Z-Score, Effective Drought Index (EDI) Deciles Index (DI), Percent of Normal (PN) and Rainfall Anomaly Index (RAI) were calculated using 30 years meteorological data (1982-2011) for nine stations. Correlation analysis is performed to identify differences of the indices in different time scales. In order to assess the drought characteristics, NDVI indices were extracted in the 2000-2011 period, using MODIS images. The results show that the presented correlation coefficients increase in the long time scales such as 9 and 12-months. The maximum value of ramong Indices and NDVI are obtained for 6, 9 and 12-months, time scale and the minimum value for 1 and 3-months, time scale in all areas. In time scale 12 months in all stations, correlation coefficient ralmost is more than 0.4. It is recommended in range land used long term scales indices such as 9 and 12-months and the strong correlated indices for this study were MCZI, CZI, ZSI, SPI and EDI with NDVI, Respectively.
