Abstract

Brine shrimp (Artemia sp.) is one of the important live food used in the production of fish and shell fish seed in hatcheries. For early fry of fish, juveniles of Artemiais used as feed in the nurseries. Artemiabeing now selective filter feed suitable sized particles diets can be used as feed for rearing brine shrimp. In the present investigation an attempt was made to evaluate the comparative efficacy of using agricultural by-products rice bran, ground nut oil cake and till seed cake for optimum growth and survival of brine shrimp, Artemia sp. (25 days) under laboratory conditions. The results indicated feed dose of concentration of 60 mg per day up to 10 days and 80 mg per day up to 25 days was found to desirable for obtaining better survival and growth rate in all cases. The statistical analysis showed (p ˆ 0.05) in survival, growth, fecundity and naupliar production of Artemiawas found to be better under ground nut oil cake feeding compared to that of commercially used rice bran and yeast.
