DEFLUORIDATION OF DRINKING WATER A REVIEW

J.K. JAIN AND NIDHI GUPTA

Abstract

Fluoride is an essential element to strengthen the teeth enamel in low concentration (1-1.5mg/L) in drinking water. However it is harmful to teeth and bones if its concentration is in the range of 1.5-4mg/L causing dental and skeletal fluorosis. Many parts of the world have higher fluoride concentration in groundwater, i.e. upto 30 mg/L responsible for serious health problems for the population using such ground water for drinking purposes. This review article is aimed at providing precise information on efforts made by various researchers in the field of fluoride removal from drinking water.
