Abstract

This paper is about Barzu concrete double arch dam break and its investigation using MIKE 21 software. Topographic maps were prepared by the Army Geographic Agency. And the initial conditions assumed in being constant of the water behind the dam, and being in the normal depth and dry bed downstream of the dam regardless of reservoir sedimentation. By study of the dam failure on a sunny day without rain, a slug volume of water behind the dam flooded areas can be obtained and the critical points are identified. In the first method, the catchment graph for critical points in time intervals and location elevation code was determined and in the second method that is spatial, two-dimensional flow that indicates flood zoning of the whole area in time interval. By comparing these two methods prejudice for dam failure time is obtained. Using the risk matrix, areas of flood risk by integration of velocity and depth flood maps determined risk level in each area and also crisis management for the area is defined and factors for preventing from Barzu dam failure are recommended.
