EFFICACY OF BOTANICAL EXTRACTS FROM LEMON GRASS CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS (DC.) STAPF. (FAMILY: POACEAE) AGAINST MOSQUITO LARVAE OF AEDES AEGYPTI LINN. (DIPTERA: CULICIDAE)H.A.AKINNIBOSUN AND J. ROTIMIAbstract Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf. leaf extract was evaluated for its efficacy against the early 4th instar larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquito following the WHO protocol. High rate of mortality was recorded within 45 minutes of the bioassay test. One hundred per cent mortality was recorded at 30, 40 and 45 minutes of setting up the experiment using 0.30 g/mL , 0.25 g/mL and 0.20 g/mL concentrations of the aqueous leaf extracts respectively. LC50 was recorded exactly 65 minutes after setting up the experiment using 0.10g/mL concentration. Cynibopogon citratus aqueous leaf extracts showed a significant larvicidal activity against A. aegypti mosquito larvae at all concentrations tested when compared with the control (p<0.05) and is thus recommended for the control of this vector of different fever that are scourge of man.
