CYTOTOXIC EFFECT OF FLUORIDE ON RAT PANCREATIC PROTEINS

SHASHI, A, S. NEERAJ AND N. SHARMA

Abstract

The cytochernical changes in pancreas in experimental fluorosts were investigated. Sprague Dawley albino rats of Not h in the veighL range of 100 to 300g were used for the experiments. They were divided into 12 € xperimenta I group ;Ind one control group. The rats of control group were administered subcut:ineu:-;!v ciouble cli:Thiled water I cc/kg bw daily. The experimental groups of rats were injected with 30, 45 and 75 mg Nal1kg bw /clay for 15 to 36 days. The experimental period was divided into 4 phases at interval of 15, 22„ 30 and 36 days. Animals were sacrificed from each group at the end of 16, 23, 31 and 37 days. The cytochernica.l examination of pancreas revealed that acini were compactly arranged in lobules and showed. high intensity of a-amino proteins and nuclei stained positive with ninhydrin schiff's reagent in rat of control group. The nuclei and cytoplasm of acinar glands exhibited high intensity of a- amino proteins in rats treated with 30 mg NaF/kg bw /day for 15, 22 and 36 days. The acini and islets cells showed less intensity of protein in test rats treated for 30 mg NaF/kg bw /day for 30 days. The amount of pancreatic proteins elevated in experimental rats treated with 75 mg NaF, /kg bw /day for 15 days, but found declined in the pancreas of rat treated for 75 mg NaF/kg bw/clay for 22 to 36 days.
