ASSESSMENT OF HYDROGEOMORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES WITH VEGETATION STRUCTURE IN THE CHITTERI HILLS IN THE EASTERN GHATS OF TAMIL NADU USING REMOTE SENSING DATA

D. NATARAJAN AND S. JOHN BRITTO

Abstract

IRS1C-LISSIII (February 1999) FCC (1:50,000 scale) is used for the identification and mapping of major vegetation cover types and hydrogeomorphological features in the Chitteri hills of the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu. Based on the image characteristics and intensive ground truth, six vegetation cover types and seven hydrogeomorphological features are demarcated. Hydrogeomorphological map is overlaid on vegetation map using GIS and their association in terms of aerial distribution, dominant species in each vegetation type is discussed.
