Abstract

Airborne particulate matter and lead are monitored along with the relevant meteorological parameters at ten selected sites in Mad urai city during the summer season of the year 2002. Environmental Protection Agency and Central Pollution Control Board recommended methods are adopted for the estimation of the pollutants. It is studied that both the pollutants of present interest are within the standards of national ambient air quality at all the sampling sites. It is also studied that the wind speed is the dominant meteorological variable in determining the ambient COTICel iiraiions of these pollutants. It can be concluded that inflexible execution of vehicular abatement measures is inevitable to safeguard the health of the habitants of the city.
