SURVEY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS FROM AREAS OF AHMEDNAGAR DISTRICT (MAHARASHTRA STATE)

Abstract

Ahmednagar District is a part of Deccan plateau, is situated in the western part of Maharashtra. The major part of the Ahmednagar is inhabited by rural population. There are few tribal pockets scattered in this region. They are well versed with the age old practices of treatment. They have developed indigenous methods of making formulations by using the local herbal medicines and pass it on from one generation to another. It is well known that these formulations have great potential in treating various diseases. The paper deals with medicinal plants available in the areas of Ahmednagar district with their botanical name, family, Sanskrit name, local name and uses in the Ayurvedic formulary of India/Folk medicines etc. During the recent exploration about 84 plants belonging to 46 different families have been recorded so far.
