VIBRIOSIS IN PENAEID POST-LARVAE : HISTOPATHOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES IN PENAELIS INDICLISN. ARAVINDAN, CH. SATYAVATHI C. KALAVATI AND Y. PRABHAKARA RAO
Histopathological and biochemical alterations induced by V. parahaemolyticus, the causative agent of shell disease in the post-larval stages of Penaeus indicus inhabiting the backwater regions on the East coast of India wete investigated. Atrophy, multi-focal necrosis, vacuolisation, hypertrophy and melanisation of the hepatopancreas, nerve cord and muscles were evident. Changes in the antenna' glands and gills were relatively less defined. Biochemically, there was a greater depletion of total lipids than carbohydrates or proteins. Reduction in DNA and RNA content and ATPase activity were perceptible.
