PUMICE STONE SUPPORTED BIOCATALYST FOR USE IN THE TREATMENT OF PHENOL AND STARCH CONTAINING WASTEWATERSPOORNA VISWANATHAN, NIVEDITA JOSH!, DALJIT KAUR RAYAT AND JASMINE BHATHENAAbstract Mixed cultures of cells immobilized on 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm3 pumice stone pieces, Bubble column type bioreactors were set up using pumice-supported biocatalyst for degrading phenol and starch containing wastewaters. The organisms showed 71% and 60.4% degradation of phenol and starch respectively.
