INFLUENCE OF GA3 ON SEED GERMINATION AND BIOMASS ACCUMULATION IN CITRUS GRANDIS LINN.

N.D, SINGH AND A. ARUNACHALAM

Abstract

The investigation was undertaken to study the effect of different doses of gibberellic acid for soaking (12, 24 and 36 hours) the Citrus grandis seeds before sowing in lab condition (room temperature), BOD incubator at 25 ± 1°C, but one maintaining dark condition and another maintaining 12 hours dark and 12 hours light phases. BOD-dark incubated seeds showed better germination percentage. In GA-400 and GA-600 cent per cent germination was observed even after 24-27 days of sowing. GA-700 and GA-600 had relatively better effect on plant growth if seeds are soaked for 12 hours. The dry weight of the shoot and root samples differed a lot between treatments, soaking time and incubation conditions. In BOD-dark incubated seedlings, apart from GA-400, GA-600 application help in fairly a good accumulation of biomass. There was a positive relationship between gibberellic acid dosage and seed germination in Citrus grandis.
