EFFECT OF TESTOSTERONE UNDECANOATE AS DIETARY ADDITIVE ON GROWTH AND BIO-CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF COMMON CARP (CYPRINUS CARPIO COMMUNIS)R. BHARADWAJ and L.L. SHARMAAbstract The effectiveness of Testosterone undecanoate (TU) for growth promotion in common carp, Cyprinus carpi() var. commits was evaluated through dietary administration of three different doses. Fishes fed with TU @ 400 ppm attained survival of 92% against 72% for the control fishes. At this dose mean body weight and length were 162.56 gms. and 166 mm respectively against 112.41 gins. and 125 mm for the control fishes. The protein and lipid contents of the treated fish muscles increased significantly (P < 0.01) in all the TU treated groups. Fishes fed with TU @ 400 ppm recorded protein and lipid contents of 17.72 and 4.96% against 16.10 and 4.19% of control group respectively. The moisture and ash contents of fish muscles decreased significantly (P <0.01). Fishes fed with TU hormone @400 ppm recorded moisture and ash contents 79.16 and 1.65% respectively against 81.42 and 2.10% of control groups. The weight loss in evisceration was 6.25% @400 ppm TU treatment against 13.31% in control group.
