Abstract

Efficacy of neem (Azadirachta indica A.Jass), Soap nut (Sapindus trifoliatus L.) and their formulations and Malathion as standard insecticide were evaluated against the rice bug (Leptocorisa oratorious Fabr.) during 2000-2001 on the basis of per cent mortality under laboratory condition. The per cent mortality of rice bug adults due to neem seed kernel powder, neem seed kernel powder + multany powder, multany powder, neem leaf powder, neem leaf powder + multany powder, neem leaf powder + ash, soap nut kernel powder, soap nut kernel powder + multany powder tested as dust were found to be 31.48, 20.74, 10.74, 24.44, 16.68, 13.71, 28.14 and 17.05 respectively for exposure period of 48 hours. The order of efficacy of the botanicals and their formulations were Malathion > neem seed kernel powder > soap nut kernel powder > neem leaf powder > neem seed kernel powder + ultany powder > soap nut kernel powder + multany powder > neem leaf powder + multany powder > neem leaf powder + ash > multany powder for the exposure period of 48 hours used against rice bug adults.
