STUDIES ON THE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF WATER SAMPLES OF PUTHERI AREA, KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT, TAMILNADU, INDIAV. MARY KENSA AND S. JEYAKAVITHAAbstract Assessments of physico-chemical parameters were carried out during July 2011 to February 2012 from two ponds namely Azahavan pond and Palkulam.These two sites were subjected to various anthropogenic activities. Analysis of collected water samples with references to various physicchemical parameters like pH, Temperature,Dissolved oxygen, Total alkalinity, chloride, NO3, PO4, and SO4. From the values of all these parameters it was observed that there was a fluctuating behaviour throughout the said period. The highest level of pollution was found at Palkulam. The present investigation indicates high progressive pollution levels in the Palkulam during monsoon.
