MAHUYA DASGUPTA ADAK AND K.M. PUROHIT

Abstract

Evaluation of different physico-chemical parameters of surface and ground water samples, covering the entire industrial area of Mandiakudar (Kansbahal, Orissa), are carried out to assess the suitability of the water for irrigation purposes. Samples are collected during March 1999 to February 2000. The parameters responsible for irrigation purposes are Electrical Conductance (EC), Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR), Percent Sodium (SP) and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC). Results of the present investigation are compared with the Wilcox standard value, and Ayers and Westcott standard value. It is observed that all water samples under study can safely be used for irrigation purposes.
