BACTERIOLOGICAL POLLUTION IN A STRETCH OF RIVER NARMADA AT HOSHANGABAD, MADHYA PRADESH

Abstract

An attempt has been made to assess the water quality of river Narmada at Hoshangabad, with respect to the bacterial concentration. Water samples were collected from seven different sampling stations. The study revealed that count of conform bacteria was recorded higher in the summer and monsoon months due to impact of industrial and sewage interferences. Higher concentration of MPN of conforms was also found at Sethanighat and Korighat during the study span, it may be due to regular mass bathing activities.
