CHANGES IN CHLOROPHYLL AND TOTAL FREE AMINO ACIDS OF GRAM IN RESPONSE TO SULPHUR DIOXIDE EXPOSURE UNDER FIELD CONDITIONSPRATIBHA AND MADHU SHARMAAbstract The effect of SO2on chlorophyll and total free Amino acids of Gram (Cicer arietinum L.) were investigated by exposing plants to lppm of SO2. Gram seeds of variety JG-315. 1ppm of SO2 was given to twenty days old plants for thirty days. Results were noted for 35, 50, 65, 80,95 day old plants. Chlorophyll and Total free Amino acids were quantified. Exposure of plants, developed visible injury symptoms and suffered growth reductions. Exposure to SO2depressed chlorophyll. There is an increase in Total Free Amino acid in the leaves of fumigated plants over control, respectively.
