FLUORIDE AND FLUOROSIS IN INDIA - I. DRINKING WATER SOURCE CONTAMINATION IN UTTAR PRADESH

Abstract

Extensive surveys were undertaken to assess the status of fluoride distribution in drinking water sources of villages and urban areas of Uttar Pradesh. Most of the households in localities of Allahabad and almost all rural areas of Districts Allahabad, Pratapgarh, Ballia and Gonda received fluoride-contamirated drinking water supply from Govt. controlled water works departments and "desi" and India Mark II handpumps. dug wells and tubewells. The water sources in brick kiln areas were heavily contaminated with fluoride.
