IN VIVO EFFECTS OF ORPIMENT ADMINISTRATION ON THE LIPID PROFILE OF RAT LUNGSPURNIMA SINGH AND RAJESHWAR SHARMAAbstract Orpiment (As2S3) administration to rats resulied in statistically significant lowering of various lipids of rat lungs. The individual phospholipids fractions as well as neutral lipid fraction of lung microsomes separated by thin layer chromatography showed varying but significant decreases with concomitant enhancement in lipid peroxidation. The results suggest possible impairment of lung functions due to depletion of membrane lipids and enhanced lipid peroxidation by orpiment.
