R.M.. MURUGAPPAN, M. MUTHUSAMY AND T. SAMPATHKUMAR

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the presence of different bacterial and fungal species in the samples of adhesive paste available in the Post Offices of Madurai city. Aspergillus niger represents a highest percentage (37%) in occurrence of the total fungal colonies isolated. Four bacterial genera Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Serratia and Escherichia were also isolated. Although these results are limited, they tend to confirm considerable pollution of the adhesive paste by microbial populations.
