EFFECT OF MUTATION ON ALTERNARIA ARACHIDIS CAUSING ALTERNARIA BLIGHT OF GROUNDNUT

D.C. Kamthane and B.M. Kareppa

Abstract

The young growing tip of Alternaria arachidis spore suspension (5 x 10000) was treated with ultraviolet radiation (UV) and 5-Bromo uracil (5-BU) at 0.025,0.05 and 1.0% for 6, 12 and 24 hours. The treated and untreated Aiternaria ardchidis suspension was spread on Czpeak Dox agar media and incubated for 10 days. After incubation period the number of mutants developed were counted in the form of colony. The suspension was also not treated with any source of mutation and with sterile distilled water acts as spontaneous and control colonies. The treatment of 5 BU at 0.025,0.05 and 1.0% for 6,12 and 24 hours gives maximum, intermediate and least percent frequency of Mutation decreased. On the other hand, as treatment hours increased, percent of mutation also increased.
