DIURNAL VARIATION OF PH IN FRESH WATER FISH CULTURE POND

Abstract

pH of water has direct effect on fish growth as well as on the,trowth and survival of fish food organisms. Diurnal variation of water pH was studied in Adhartal fresh water fish culture pond of Jabalpur (MP). The pH reachd peak values (8.2) during the afternoon between 1200 hrs to I 600 hirs and the water temperature goes to 24.2°C to 25.2°C and ambient temperature goes to 27.8°C to 32.5°C and decline in the evening reaching low levels (pH-7.8) during 1800 hrs (this time ambient temperature was 24.3°C & water temperature was 22 .8°C)The lowest pH (7.6) air temperature (20.7°C ) and water temperature (23.3°C) was obserred in the morning at 0600 hrs. A positive corelationship was observed between pH and temperature of fresh water fish culture pond.
