EFFECT OF HGCI, ON DIGESTIVE ENZYMES INVERTASE OF FRESH WATER BIVALVE LAMELLIDENS MARGINALIS

S.M. Sonawane

Abstract

The Freshwater bivalve Lamellidens marginalis from the Godavari river at Paithan were exposed to lethal and sublethal concentration (0.6 ppm and 0.39 ppm) of mercuric chloride as acute and chronic treatment. The invertase activity in control animals was 0.0982 mg at glucose/mg protein/hr. In case at Hgc I 2 showed a continuous decrease in activity at 24, 48 and 72 hrs. of exposure. Decrease in activity in Hgc12 stress was Significant at p0 0.00 I and p 0.005 levels. After chronic treatment control value 0.2002 mg glucose/mg protein /hr. A constant depletion in invertase up to 0.0 I 0 I mg of glucose/mg prtoein/hr.
