IMPACT OF PAPER MILL EFFLUENT ON THE AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM AND FISHERY POTENTIAL OF RIVER KALI

Abstract

The physio-chemical character of the aquatic environment changed after the effluents from the paper mills located on the banks of river Kali drained into the river.The impact of the paper mill effluent was observed in the studied parameters which indicate the quality of the river water as unhygienic for the aquatic living beings. To analyze the load of effluent on the river Kali, the water was sampled and analyzed at three different spots along the course of the river, and the fishery potential at each respective spots recorded.The study indicates the decrease in the fishery potential nearer to the pont of discharge where the concentration of the effluents was found to be increasing.
