INFLUENCE OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON CHANGES IN THE LEVELS OF METABOLITES IN DEVELOPING FRUITS OF MASHBEAN (CV.UL-338)

Navita Ghai, Zarina Sehgal and Parmil Singh

Abstract

Homobrassinolide (HBR) (0.1 and 0.5 lig mL-1) and humicil (HL) (0.5 and 1.011g mL-1) were used as foliar applications on mashbean crop at vegetative and floral inititation stages. The effect of these two PGRs on changes in the levels of various metabolites viz; total soluble sugars, starch, free amino acids and total soluble proteins in the pod wall and seeds at different developmental stages were studied. Both the PGRs resulted in an increase in the level of various metabolites in the developing fruits (pod wall and seed). There was an increased turnover of sugars and amino acids and enhanced deposition of reserves in the form of proteins by HBR and HL, which resulted in improved quality of mashbean seeds.
