DISTRIBUTION PATTERN OF FUNGAL DISEASES OF POTATO IN RELATION TO CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND CULTIVAR IN THE DISTRICT OF LAKHIMPUR, ASSAM

Abstract

A survey of the major potato diseases in the district of Lakhimpur, Assam, revealed the occurrence of late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans, early blight caused by Alternaria solani and black wart caused by Synchitrium endobioticum in the potato crops of four different cultivars. Late blight disease was the most dominant and caused extensive damage to the crop. Climatic condition influences the disease development to a great extent. In a conducive environment, late blight disease develops even in the resistant varieties of the crop.
