A FIRST REPORT ON THE OCCURRENCE OF A MEGASCOLECID EARTHWORM, LAMPITO KUMILIENSIS (ANNEKIA : OLIGOCHAETA) IN SIRUMAIAL HILLS OF TAMIL NADU, SOUTH INDIA

Abstract

A survey has been made during the year 1997-98 in different ecosystems at various altitudinal ranges in Sirumalai Hills, Tamil Nadu to study the distribution and occurrence of earthworm fauna. The earthworm species Lam pito kumiliensis (Family : Megascolecidae) has been identified first time from Sirumalai hills in undisturbed sacred grove land, grazing lands, lemon grass site, shola and deciduous forests at various altitudes (750-1300 mts.).
