Abstract

Kuttanad, known as the rice bowl of Kerala, is a unique wetland ecosystem with intensive agriculture operations. Pesticide pollution has become a very serious problem in this region. The present paper reports the HCH residues distributed in different trophic levels of Kuttanad. HCH residues are found to be high in sediments followed by fish, frog, plankton, clam, earthworm, human blood, cowmilk and water. Water-plankton-fish complex showed biological magnification.
