STUDIES ON THE PIT -ICO-CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF A FRESH WATER POND ECOSYSTEM AS AN INDICATOR OF WATER POLLUTION

Abstract

The Kuchinda town lies between 21°15' N latitude and 84°15' E longitudes towards north-west of Orisa and 778 meter above the mean sea level.The fresh water pond of Kuchinda town such as Muktiar Bandh was selected for physico-chemical and biological characteristics study depending on its importance from pollution point of view and degree of utility for local population.The present study on ecology and the surface water of this fresh water pond was covered a number of aspects, beginning from abiotic and biotic parameters to pollution assessment for nine months during 1995-1996 and thereby reveals a true picture of the water quality of the pond.
