LIMNOLOGICAI STUDY OF AN ANCIENT RESERVOIR, JAGATUNGA SAMUDRA LOCATED AT KANDHAR, DIST. NANDED, MAHARASHTRA STATE, INDIA

Abstract

Jagatunga Samudra Reservoir is one of the ancient, perennial water bodies.The water of the reservoir is used for irrigation, wading, washing by the villagers.The limnological studies were undertaken to gain the knowledge of water quality of the reservoir. The limnological study was carried out from february 1999 to January 2000.The present paper deals with the physico chemical aspect such as pH, total solids,Total suspended solids, total dissolved solids, carbonates, Bi- carbonates,Total hardness and Nitrates were analysed. Monthly analysis during study period of reservoir suggests that the water is in an alkaline range and most suitable for fish culture.
