IMPACT OF CYPERMETHRIN ON THE MYCOFLORAL PROPORTIONS OF SOILDevarati Bhattacharya and Namita JoshiAbstract Pyrethroids are new age pesticides, which have been synthesized and developed from modified pyrethrins, the extracts of Chrysanthemum cinerariaefollium. They are well known for their insecticidal properties and are less sensitive towards environmental breakdown. The present study was undertaken to analyze the effect of such residual pyreth'roids on the mycofloral contents of soil. It was seen that though initially after pesticidal application, the fungal growth was restricted but as the chemical was metabolized in the soil, it retained back it's original form in about 30 days. Thus the relative instability of microorganisms towards the pyrethroids was established, recommending their use as relatively safer insecticides.
