IN VITRO STUDIES OF CADMIUM CHLORIDE ON BRAIN ACETYLCHOLINESTERASES OF ANUS NENGA A MARINE TELEOST

S.M. Patil and R.S. Hande

Abstract

Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal, belonging to the same family as zinc and mercury. It is one of the pollutants found in marine environment and considered as one of the toxic environmental hazard. This study deals with the invitro effect of Cadmium on Acetylcholinesterases (AChE.3.1.1.7.) from brain of marine teleost Arius nenga (catfish). The enzyme was assayed by U.Y. Scanned. Spectrophotometer (U.V. 2100 Chernito). The results were analysed in terms of Michaelis constant (Km) and V max. It was observed that the Cadmium exerted the inhibitory effect on cytoplasmic and membrane —bound fractions of AChE. In both the cases the Km and V max were altered. The efficiency of enzyme was computed in terms ofV max/ Km ratio.
