Shivesh Pratap Singh, Deepa Pathak and Rashmi Singh

Abstract

The hydrobiological study on two water bodies i.e. Jagatdev and Narayan ponds of Satna (M.P) India were made over a period of one year because these are the most vital life lines of Satna city and are they key factors in geographical dominance in the life history of the city. The water samples were analysed for temperature, pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand and chlorides. Also to analyze planktions, to evaluate their systematics and variations in their populations in relation to different seasons of a year. Comparisons of plankton composition and their correlation with physicochemical parameters have been made. Phytoplanktons belonging to Chlorophy, Cyanophyta and Chrysophyta were recorded, while the zooplanktons belonging to Protozoas, Rotifers and Crustaceans were recorded. There was a qualitative abundance of Chlorophycease while Bacillariophycease were greater in number. Among zooplanktons the rotifers were abundant.
