Abstract

An environmental study was carried out to analyze the quantitative and qualitative community structure of the tree species diversity of Waghai forest. The study indicated that Waghai forest consists of mature forest areas with 17% of the trees having GBH greater than 101 cm.A total of 4575 trees representing 79 species were recorded in Waghai. Large number of individuals was also recorded in the range of 0-20 cm GBH followed by 21-30 cm and 31-40 cm GBH range. The tree layer was predominated by Tectona grandis,Terminalia crenulata, Bridelia retusa in all the studied LSE's followed by Acacia catechu, Adina cordifolia,Grewia Ougeinia oojeinensis,Wrightia tinc-toria, Lannea coromandelica and Bambusa arundinacea. The tree species showing even distribution in LDMD, MDMD,BNT are Diospyros melanoxyion, Dalbergia lotifolia and Lagerstroemia parviflora.Tree species indices like Shannon-Wienner's Index and Brillionian's Index are negatively correlating with Simpson's Index. The variation of tree species dversity and indices differs from one LSE to another and details would be discussed in this paper.
