STATUS OF FISHERY OF THANE CREEK

Abstract

Studies on fishery of Thane Creek from Oct.9 I to Apr. 93 revealed dominance of fish fishery (89%) as compared to crustacean fishery (1 I %).Total 18 fish species and 4 crustacean species were recorded of which only Mugil cephalus, Mystus gulio,Tilapia mossambica and Metapenaeus rnonoceros occurred throughout the year.Average monthly fishery was 1648.4 Kg. which is 68% less as compared to that in I 98 1 -82.This indicates deterioration of the creek ecology which needs to be prevented urgently.
