EFFECT OF NAGAON PAPER MILL (JAGIROAD, ASSAM) EFFLUENT ON THE YIELD COMPONENTS OF RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L. VAR MAHSURI)S.K. Dutta and C.L. BoissyaAbstract A study was carried out on the effect on Nagaon Paper Mill effluent on the yield components of rice (Oryza sativa L. Var Mahsuri) with particular reference to total number of flower, number of fertilised flower per panicle, average length of ear per plant, number of grain per ear, test weight, volume of 1000 grains and moisture percentage of fresh seed. The physico-chemical properties of polluted water were significantly different from those of non-polluted water in all studied parameters. It was found that the Paper Mill effluent significantly reduced each of the studied parameters when compared to Oryza sativa L. var Mahsuri plant grown in areas beyond the reach of paper mill effluents.
