Dushyant Sharma and Renu Jain

Abstract

Gopalpura Tank, one of the artificial water bodies of Guna (M.P.), is used for irrigation as well as for pisciculture by the villagers. Phsysico-chemical studies were undertaken to enhance the limnological knowledge about the tank and to explore possibilities for better management of pisciculture. In the present study various physico-chemical factors such as water temperature, transparency, turbidity, conductivity, pH, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen and chloride were found to be interrelated. Study of various physcio-chemical factors also indicated that the tank is quite suitable for pisciculture and proper awareness of its culture in scientific way should be taught to the villagers for its proper utilisation and exploitation.
