P. Mariappan, V. Yegnaraman and T. Vasudevan

Abstract

Rain water samples were collected at roof level at Karaikudi and Thiruppathur during October 1998. Water samples were also collected from 22 ponds in and around Karaikudi and Thiruppathur. Physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters were analysed. Roof water is found to be pure and free from bacteriological contamination. Pond water is turbid and has excessive iron content with objectionable bacteriological pollution load. Collection of roof water of drinking purpose is found to be encouraging. Pond water needs clarification. No anthropogenic sources are found to acidify the rainfall.
