Abstract

The maximum biomass (31.23-34 g/m2) of H. ova/is at Pandi Backwaters, near Amalapuram was recorded at 10.5-12.5x I 0-3 S, 25.5 - 26°T and low pH (6.6 - 6.3) in the NE monsoon and is attributable to massive ingress of Godavari river water in SW monsoon and relative stability of S throughout the season. The field hydrographic conditions are within the experimental limits where their highest rate of physiological activities are observed. The study emphasised that the H. ova/is growth is more controlled by S rather than other studied hydrographic conditions.
