METABOLIC DIFFERENTIATION OF FUNCTIONALLY DIFFERENT MUSCLES IN THE CATFISH MYSTUS MONTANUS (JERDON)M. Muruganan dam, A. Jesuarockia Raj and K. MarimuthuAbstract The biochemical composition of different muscles was observed in Mystus montanus. Pectoral muscles have high- energy value (male 4.07 kcal/g; female 6.0 kcal/g) compared to the other regions of muscles. It also has more lipid content (32.0%). Higher carbohydrate content was observed in dorsal muscles of males and pelvic and caudal muscles of females. Maximum percentage of protein (69.12%) was observed in pectoral muscles of females and anal muscles of males (40.56%). Based on this observation pectoral muscles are highly active compared to other muscles.
