ECOLOGICAL AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF URBANISATION

Abstract

Urbanisation is an index of socio-econmic growth but its formation following industrial development often causes changes in the natural landscape with disruption of stable ecosystem. Provision of amenities etc. for thd increasing population and disposal of garbage and sewage there of damage the periurban ecology. Besides ecodegradation, there develops some consequent socio-economic problems as well. Non-availability of urban facilities by different income- groups forms new socio-economic order with wealth and politics. Formation of slums, increased antisocial activities, breaking down of family structure with less social relations, cultural dilution etc. are the outcomes.
