PERFORMANCE AND PROSPECTS OF SHRIMP HATCHERIES OF VISAKHAPATNAML.M. Rao, U.V.V. Rao, B. Bharatha Lakshmi and K. RamaneswariAbstract A critical appraisal of the performance of shrimp hatcheries of Visakhapatnam reveals that excepting for one hatchery i.e., Avanti, all others could not reach even half of their production capacities. This clearly indicates that the prospects of hatchery industry are not so encouraging. Information relating to the procurement of brood stock, maturation, spawning methods, hatching techniques, larval rearing, water quality management, feeding schedule etc. and also various problems associated with the above mentioned factors, has been collected from 9 private hatcheries and different aspects of management problems arc discussed in detail.
