USE OF ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS FLYASH IN COM- BINATION WITH CYANOBACTERIA AS A GREEN MANURE FOR -CULTIVATION OF BRASSICA JUNCEA

Meenakshi Banerjee, Tessy Thomas and Sheena Abraham

Abstract

An attempt has been made to see the effect of flyash grown cyanobacteria and fiyash addition alone on the growth yield and oil content of Brassica juncea. A significant increase was obtained when the plants were supplemented with the strong rice field N, fixer Aulosira fertilissima. The results were followed by the plants treated with flyash grown Aulosira. The non-nitrogen fixer and single cell protein source Spirulina also produced significant increase. Among the flyash treatments alone 10% flyash produced better result than 20% flyash. The most significant observation was that oil content remained nearly the same when treated with Aulosira alone and Aulosira grown in flyash which points to the direct utility of flyash as a source of nutrients.
