Malai Rajan Singanan and Kaza Somsekhara Rao

Abstract

The quality of water is of vital concern for mankind since it is directly linked with human needs. In the temple complex 22 holy wells are present. The pilgrims are taking holy baths in the wells. The present study deals with the quality of holy wells water for which the three important water quality parameters such as pH, EC and DO are selected. The pH expresses the indensity of acidity or alkalinity. The measurement of pH is of great importance because chemical and biochemical reactions in an aquatic body takes place at a particular pH. The measurement of EC values signifies the amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) which indicates the extents of inorganic pollution load. The DO is one of the most important parameters of water quality assessment and reflects physical and biological processes prevailing in the water.
