Abstract

Phytoplankton and Zooplankton composition and some water quality parameter were investigated in a pond of Lumding town of Assam between 2009 to Sept. 2010. Water Temperature, pH,DO,Free CO2, acidity, alkalinity and TDS were analyzed. A total of 41 species belonging to chlorophycae. cyanophycae, Macrophytic filamentous algae were identified and a total of 20 species of Rotifera, 2 species of Cladocera and 1 genus of copepods were found. The highest phytoplankton abundance was found in August. The highest abundance of Zooplankton were recorded in July and lowest value in November. Various physico-chemical parameters were studied. The pH of water ranged from 7.57-8.0. The DO ranged from 4.0-4.9 mg/L. Acidity ranged from 30-31 mg/L. Alkalinity ranged from 28-30 mg/L. TDS ranged from 250- 260mg/L. free carbon di-oxide ranged from 30-32.56 mg/L. Temperature ranges from 24-280C.
